*Anfibia fue el resultado de una residencia de un mes en el MAM Chiloé - Centro Activo de Arte Contemporáneo, realizada como parte del Premio Ca.Sa 2021.
"Chiloé se ha construido adaptándose a sus condiciones climáticas, su geografía y recursos. Me refiero principalmente a la relación que hay aquí con el agua y la madera. Anfibia, es un término que se ha usado tanto coloquial como académicamente para hablar de la cultura chilota. Incluso para referirse a uno de sus habitantes más antiguos: los chonos, que hacían su vida sobre una embarcación construida de madera llamada dalca.
Esa relación con el agua se mantiene hasta el día de hoy. La vida de bordemar es un ejemplo de ello: los tradicionales palafitos de Chiloé no son solo una manera de construir sobre el agua sino también de aprovechar los recursos (cuando la marea sube se puede pescar y cuando baja marisquear). La carpintería de ribera (construcción de embarcaciones), en ese sentido, ha sido fundamental en la historia de la arquitectura chilota, donde esos conocimientos fueron en gran parte los que hicieron posibles sus famosas iglesias."

*Anfibia was the result of a month-long residency at the MAM Chiloé - Centro Activo de Arte Contemporáneo, carried out as part of the Ca.Sa 2021 Prize.
"Chiloé has been built adapting to its climatic conditions, its geography and resources. I am referring mainly to the relationship that exists here with water and wood. Amphibious is a term that has been used both colloquially and academically to talk about the Chilota culture. Even to refer to one of its oldest inhabitants: the Chonos, who made their life on a wooden boats called dalcas.
That relationship with water continues to this day. Life on the edge of the sea is an example of this: the traditional stilt houses of Chiloé are not only a way of building on the water but also of taking advantage of the resources (when the tide rises you can fish and when it falls you can collect shellfish). Riverside carpentry (boat construction), in that sense, has been fundamental in the history of Chilote architecture, where this knowledge was largely what made its famous churches possible."
